Manchester United qualifies the next stage of the Europa League

Manchester United has qualified to the round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League. This qualification comes after a 2-1 rise in victory at the Old Trafford on Thursday February 23rd courtesy goals from Fred and Anthony Santos to equalize and take the lead respectfully against FC Barcelona.

After placing 2nd in the group stages of the Europa League, a playoff was scheduled with FC Barcelona who also placed 3rd in the group stages of the champions league. The first leg encounter took place at the Old Trafford on the 16th of February. The game ended 2-2 draw after Manchester United came back from 1-0 shoreline to equalize and take the lead before FC Barcelona equalize to send the game hanging for the second leg encounter.

The second leg which was the ultimate decider saw FC Barcelona take an early lead through Robert Lewandowski's penalty kick. There was no more goals in the first half before French referee Clerment Turpin blew his whistle to end the first half. Manchester United equalized early in the second half to Fred shot outside the penalty box.



Anthony Santos fired a curling shot past Marc Andre Ter Stergen around the 75th minute to give Manchester United a 2-1 lead which FC Barcelona failed to equalize before the final whistle to end the game proceedings blew.
